PYKS: Toolbar - How To Use The Select Tool

The select tool allows you to duplicate, remove, or isolate your selection, creating a new layer in the process.

Access Select Tool

  1. On the left side of your screen, click on the select tool
  2. You will have more select tool options pop up on the right side of the screen. 



Remove Selection

  1. Click on any of the select tools (lasso, polygonal, circle or rectangle.)
  2. Select remove
  3. Select how soft you want the edge of the cut to be by moving the softness slider. (0 = sharp edge)
  4. Select the layer you want to work on (located layers in the bottom right corner)
  5. Go to your project layer and click and drag the mouse over the area you want to remove. 




Keep Selection

A way to use the keep feature is using it to crop out an image to use on a brochure. 

  1. Click on any of the select tools (lasso, polygonal, circle or rectangle.)
  2. Select keep
  3. Select how soft you want the edge of the cut to be by moving the softness slider. (0 = sharp edge)
  4. Select the layer you want to work on (located layers in the bottom right corner)
  5. Go to your project layer and click and drag the mouse over the area you want to keep.




Duplicate Selection

  1. Click on any of the select tools (lasso, polygonal, circle or rectangle.)
  2. Select normal
  3. Select how soft you want the edge of the cut to be by moving the softness slider. (0 = sharp edge)
  4. Select the layer you want to work on (located layers in the bottom right corner)
  5. Go to your project layer and click and drag the mouse over the area you want to duplicate.
  6. To copy selection

    1. Command+c (mac) or ctrl+v (windows) on your keyboard to copy. 
    2. Command+v (mac) or ctrl+v (windows) on your keyboard to paste. This will create a new layer. 
  7. To cut out the selection

    1. command+x (mac) or ctrl+v (windows) on your keyboard to copy. 
    2. command+x (mac) or ctrl+v (windows) on your keyboard to paste. This will create a new layer



Other Features

  • Click reset selected to reset back to the original. 
  • If you removed a selection and would rather change it to keep the selection, use the invert selected to reverse the action.
