PYKS: Toolbar - Layer Tool

The Layer Tool allows users to manage and manipulate different layers within a project, providing control over layer visibility, order, and functionality. Users can rename, duplicate, delete, lock, or hide layers, as well as fill backgrounds with colors or textures. The tool enables precise organization by moving and arranging layers to adjust their position within the project, ensuring a smooth workflow for complex designs.

Accessing the Layer Tool

  1. Click on the layer icon located on the left side of your screen.

  2. On the right side of your screen, you will be able to view all layers in your project.




Working with Layers

  1. Click on the tool you want to use.

  2. Then select the layer you want to manipulate.

  3. Now you can use the tool.



Tips And Limitations

  • Ensure you are on the correct layer before using a tool.

  • Some tools do not work on some layers. For example, you cannot use the erase tool on text and shape layers.


Layer Functionality

  • Right-click on a layer to access options like:

    • Rename

    • Duplicate Layer

    • Delete Layer

      • You can also delete the layer by clicking on the garbage can icon.

    • Fill Background

      • Fill the background color of the layer by using the eyedropper over your image or selecting from the solid / texture tab.

      • Use ctrl+z (windows) or command+z (mac) to undo any changes.

  • Additional Layer Functions

    • Lock Icon

      • Lock layer prevents you from making changes to the layer.

    • Eye Icon

      • Hide/unhide layer

    • Garbage Can Icon

      • Delete layer

    • + New Layer

      • Add a new layer.




Moving and Arranging Layers

  • Click and drag a layer to move it to a different spot.

    • This can also help adjust the layer position (foreground/background).
